The levels of complexity and sophistication that characterise today’s healthcare profession make advanced and thorough training key for effective professional practice. The aging population and rapid technical-scientific developments are generating critical cases that demand high-quality nursing skills and efficiency.The Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Nursing are both official interuniversity programmes offered by a network of eight Spanish universities and one Belgian university, and designed to train nursing researchers and specialists to carry out studies and apply social, cultural, political and psychological knowledge to healthcare for individuals, families and communities in function of the dynamics of various public health systems.The main objective of the programme is to provide the training that will allow nursing professionals to effectively administer health services and improve the quality of life in the 21st century. In short, the curriculum imparts training in new theoretical and methodological tools for providing healthcare in a complex and ever-changing society, while simultaneously devoting time and energy to improving the lives and overall health of individuals in a holistic fashion (caring for their well-being on a biological, psychological and social level).For greater compatibility with students’ professional practises, this programme is imparted via intensive classes held only two days a week.

  • Theories and Models (10 credits)
    Scientific paradigms. Epistemology of nursing sciences. Analysis and evaluation of theories and models in nursing. Application of nursing theories in primary care, management, teaching and research.
  • Bioethics I (2.5 credits)
    Philosophical and moral foundations of bioethics. Ethics, deontology and law. Ethics and life sciences. Primary care ethics: personal rights, lawful principals and legal regulations. Ethics of healing. Bioethics. Ethical problems in the nursing profession. Methodology for clinical decision-making. Primary care ethics committees.
  • Cures and New Health Demands (15 credits)
    Analysis and perspectives of health demands. Clinical judgment: current problems and solutions for development. Models of clinical reasoning. Guides for clinical practise. Nursing practises in complicated situations: adult patients in intensive care units, chronic patients. Pain, disability and death. Review of new technologies. Social-healthcare resources. Family services. Empowerment. Innovation.
  • Health and Society (5 credits)
    Sociology of health: perspectives and methods. Social groups and specific needs for cures. The study of the health sector from the sociological perspective. Economic, political and cultural factors and the relationship between social systems, health and illness. Social indicators of health.
  • Psychology of Health (6 credits)
    Psychology of health. Resources and skills for nursing intervention in various stages of the life cycle and different health situations. Interpersonal communication and teamwork.


  • The Economics of Health (5 credits)
    Macro and microeconomics. Health systems. Economic evaluation.
  • Healthcare and Social Services Management (6 credits)
    Management of healthcare services. Healthcare planning. Innovation and change management. Professional values and cultural institutes. Personnel, process and product management. Founding companies. Techniques of professional organisation. Management of material resources. Quality guarantees. Registers and measures of activity. Professional development.


  • Research Methodology I (10 credits)
    Scientific methods. Scientific documentation and terminology. Problems in research. Methods of research, quantification and data collection.
  • Research Methodology II (10 credits)
    Data analysis. Interpretation of results. Scientific communication.
  • Bioethics II (2 credits)
    Research ethics and scientific freedom. Ethics of human research subjects and genetic manipulation. Clinical research ethics committees.


  • Teaching Methods (8.5 credits)
    Pedagogical methods and educational paradigms. Educational planning and programming techniques. Learning processes and didactic resources. Teaching objectives. Educational process and evaluation techniques.


  • Technical English (14 credits)
    Reading comprehension of English-language research articles.
  • Research Project (11 credits)
    Development of a research project in the field of nursing. Enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Approach research as a commitment and contribution to the ongoing development of nursing sciences.
