Genetics has always been a very important aspect of biology and has become particularly topical with the completion of the Human Genome Project. Our Genetics course fits in well in combination with other life sciences subjects, allowing you to explore the full breadth of Genetics whilst placing particular emphasis on microbial aspects.
Microbiology is the study of those life forms that are essentially unicellular and mostly too small to see with the naked eye. It is an exciting and rapidly developing area of the life sciences and underpins much of the genetic, molecular, and medical developments that are revolutionising our lives.

A wide range of modern, dynamic learning and teaching methods are employed. The methods used have been designed to meet the specific learning outcomes of the course. Assessment includes coursework and formal examinations.
Career opportunities: A degree in Genetics and Microbiology will provide excellent preparation for a variety of careers, both subject specific and generic. Many recent graduates have gone on to pursue research (either by becoming a research assistant or via a PhD). Others have chosen to complete a PGCE and go into education, or have found work in publishing or industry.
