Within this unit you will study the following media platforms and will be assessed on your knowledge of these through a summer examination: * Broadcasting (television, film, radio, advertisements, trailers, music videos and gaming extracts) * Print (newspapers, magazines, advertising and marketing texts, film posters and CD/DVD/Game covers) * E-media (websites, blogs and advertising/promotional materials and social media) Your Media Studies tutor is also an external examiner for this exam unit which is highly beneficial to your studies. Unit 2: Media Production Processes This is a practical and creative unit within AS Media Studies. The unit is designed to enable you to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills within media production. You are required to undertake research, then plan and produce a digital storyboard including your own campaign materials (e.g. Magazine Cover, DVD Cover, Poster etc.) for a new and original film idea. During this unit you will also be required to use industry standard editing software such as Photoshop to ensure that your creative project looks as professional as possible (previous knowledge of Photoshop will be beneficial but is not required). A2 Year MS3: Media Investigation & Production The first unit studied within the second gives you the freedom to choose any topic covered within the first year and conduct a research investigation on this specific area, choosing relevant media texts to back up your points. Popular research investigations consist of the following: - The ways in which women are represented in the music industry - The ways in which masculinity is represented within the Action genre - An exploration of narrative (story) structure within the crime drama genre This investigation then leads onto a practical piece in which you use your research investigation findings to produce any of the following: - TV extract - Film Extract/Trailer - Posters - DVD Covers - CD Covers - Music Video - Advertisement (print or moving image) MS4: Text, Industry and Audience This unit is the second unit for Media Studies and is dedicated to studying three major industries within the media (e.g. TV industry, Film Industry and Advertising Industry) and their audiences. You will also look at three media texts for each industry which include The Apprentice, CSI, House of Cards and Frozen. During this unit you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the relationship between media texts, their audiences and the industries which produce and distribute them.
